CONFIRMATION
Discipleship/Confirmation will begin SEptember 11th and will run each wednesday night from 5:30pm to 6:30pm in the worship center.
Discipleship/Confirmation (D/C) is comprehensive teaching on the Bible, relationships and the church. Confirmation is primarily 7th & 8th graders, but often involves older students as well. Confirmation is also open to 6th grade students who at the discretion of their parents are ready to start a year earlier.
Some things to assess whether a 6th grader is ready include:
Can they sit still and respectfully listen and participate for an hour after school?
Will they be able to handle memory work we will focus on throughout the year?
Will they be responsible with remembering to bring the necessary materials?
Will they be responsible with learning and studying the materials given in D/C outside of Wednesdays?
At the end of the year, are they ready to stand in front of the congregation with the other students for Confirmation Sunday?
The above points will be expectations for all grades. D/C is taught by Pastor Mia Tobiason and a dedicated team of volunteers.
The 3 R’s of Confirmation
Relationship with each other
You will get to know the other Confirmation students, and hopefully you will like each other!
Relationship with adults
You will get to know some of the adults here at HOPE; our pastors, leaders, and others.
Relationship with Jesus
A relationship with Jesus is the most important relationship you will ever consider. In Confirmation you will be encouraged and challenged to enter into a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ and grow in your relationship with Him. Hopefully, you will realize how much He loves you and will return the same.
What kind of stuff will we do?
Memorization
Yes, you get to do the memory work! It is good for the brain and good for your life. Memorizing God’s Word is really a great privilege -honest.
Projects
Every once in a while we will do a project of some sort; this will help us learn better hands-on.
Questions
Your questions are important to us and they help us all, so ask away! Sometimes, there are questions that people don’t like to ask aloud, so we will accept written or emailed questions. Just let us know you don’t want your name mentioned.
Encouragement
It is really important to encourage each other. In Confirmation, we will applaud each other, say nice things, and even cheer!
Prayer
We will practice praying, and the best way to practice, is to pray! We will often pray together.
Teaching and Discussion
Each week we will do some teaching - we want you to learn that you matter to God and we don’t want to get you to merely say stuff back to us. There is a whole lot we can learn about God.
read The Bible
Our main resource is the Bible. It is an amazing book or library of books that is given to us by God! It is unlike any other book on the face of the earth and our hope is that all of us will learn how to read it and use it well to shape our lives.
